Unleash Your Burdens--Write God a Letter

Give God Your Burdens

Do you need clarity?  Want to have a good talk with God, but keep putting it off?  Try this exercise. 

In a journal, on your computer or other favourite place to write, start a love letter to God.   Here are prompting points:

  1. What I love about you God is…
  2. Thanks for...(write down significant life markers)
  3. My concerns are…
  4. Things I’m ashamed of are…
  5. Things I’m proud of include…
  6. Things I long for are…
  7. My fears seem to be…
  8. I ask for…
  9. I crave…

A day or two later, find a quiet place where you can be alone and read the letter to God out loud. 

Follow the letter with reading Scripture.  Try The Living Bible or The Message for a Change. Turn to a devotional book and read a few pages.  See if what you read speaks to anything in your letter. 

Decide what things in your letter need to be left to God to handle.  What do you need to surrender?  

Get a daisy or similar flower and pick off each petal as you hand over your concerns to God.  Give it all to God and then expect answers to your prayers.
